Motorway tolls: what category is my vehicle?

The 5 categories of vehicles

On the motorway, toll rates are divided into 5 classes. They correspond to the 5 regulatory categories of vehicles defined according to their height, their weight and the number of axles.

Did you know?

Class 2 vehicles fitted out for the transport of disabled people benefit from the class 1 tariff. The vehicle registration document must bear the mention "disabled".


VEHICLE CATEGORIES

Category 1

Light vehicles

  • Overall height less than 2 metres
  • GVWR no more than 3.5 tonnes

Intermediate vehicles

  • Overall height exceeding 2 metres
  • GVWR no more than 3.5 tonnes
Intermediate vehicles

Category 3

Heavy goods vehicles and coaches (2 axles)

  • Overall height exceeding 3 metres
  • GVWR exceeding 3.5 tonnes
Heavy goods vehicles and coaches

Category 4

Heavy goods vehicles and coaches (3 or more axles)

  • Overall height exceeding 3 metres
  • GVWR exceeding 3.5 tonnes
