Abertis

Sanef is part of abertis, Europe's leading infrastructure group in terms of stock market capitalisation - more than 12 billion euros at the close of 2005 - and one of its main companies in terms of financial solvency and profits. After the take-over of the French motorway operator Sanef in February 2006, the group has a staff of 10,679 people, with 50% of its income generated outside Spain.

In its various areas of infrastructure management - motorways, airports, telecommunications infrastructure, car-parks and logistics services -, abertis is present in 16 countries: Spain, Italy, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Sweden, the United States, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Bolivia, Puerto Rico, Morocco, France, South Africa, Andorra and Costa Rica.

Since 2003, following the merger of Acesa Infraestructuras and Áurea Infraestructuras that led to the abertis Corporation, the group has worked on a steady expansion programme and has consolidated as a diversified operator working in an international context. These landmarks, among others, have marked its diversification and international dimension :

  • The purchase in 2003 of retevisión,
  • the take-over of the British airport operator TBI in 2005,
  • the 2006 take-over of the French motorway operator Sanef, a key piece in the construction of a European group that is Number One in infrastructure,
  • the 2006 announcement of the merger project with Autostrade, which supposes the creation of the world leader in infrastructure management, with a stock market capitalisation close to 25,000 million euros.

Les domaines d'activité

Motorways
In this sector, abertis manages directly 3,365 kilometres - after the addition of the French operator Sanef - and is third in Europe in terms of kilometres managed.

Telecommunications Infrastructures
With a total of 3,217 sites, abertis telecom is Spanish leader in transfer and relays of TV and radio signals.

Airports
abertis airports manages a total of eight airports worldwide and offers various services at four others. In 2005, the airports belonging to abertis airports moved 21.4 million passengers.

Car-parks
abertis, through its subsidiary saba through its subsidiary.

Infrastructure and logistics services
The projects currently being handled by abertis logística account for the management of over 800,000 square metres of plant space and 180,000 square metres of offices.

Les données clés

The total net profit of abertis in 2005 was 511 million euros. Its operating profits grew by 23% to 1,906 million, and the cash-flow generated increased by 16% to 822 million euros. The operating earnings (Ebitda) grew to 1,204 million (+15%), and net earnings before interest (Ebit) to 833 million (+13%). Investments rose to 941 million euros.
